Richmond MP visits Ham House Cassel quilt display

The Cassel Hospital and Charitable Trust were delighted to welcome Richmond MP Sarah Olney to visit the centenary quilt display during Mental Health Awareness Week 2023.

Sarah met the Cassel staff and CHCT Trustees and heard directly from Hannah Cadogan about her own journey and how the idea for the centenary quilt had been developed. The 100 diamonds are being produced by past and present patients and staff, sharing their memories and thoughts about their time at The Cassel. We were delighted that local Councillor Penny Frost (pictured right of Sarah Olney) also  dropped in.

Sarah said : “It’s been such a pleasure to see this remarkable quilt and to find out about its creation. I hope it inspires and encourages others.”

Carolyn Regan, CEO West London NHS Trust, visited the quilt earlier in the week and remarked: “What a wonderful, thought-provoking and beautiful quilt – showing so much talent and sharing so many memories. Thank you for this impressive work – very special.”

Many visitors wrote messages in the Vistors’ book recording some wonderful reactions to this unique piece of commemorative textile artwork.

“What an amazing community project, so important to support and understand those who suffer with mental health issues which are still shamed and taboo. You have all my love and support.”

“ How inspiring; sometimes it’s a wonderful world. Hurrah everyone involved.”

“ A lovely piece of original craft with so many different samples representing a range of stories and experiences of help at the Cassel.”
