Raising awareness of BPD

Raising awareness of BPD

The CHCT congratulates the organisers of A Tale of 3 Cities on delivering a successful programme of events to highlight @BPDAwarenessMonth.

A Tale of 3 Cities was a series of national and international events during May 2022 (International Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Month) to highlight and challenge the pervasive and deeply harmful discrimination facing young people with a ‘borderline personality. Too many people who are given a diagnosis of ‘borderline personality disorder’ don’t get the support they need.

The month of activity culminated in a high-profile celebration event on 31 May at the Cathedral in Manchester hosted by the Dean Rogers Govender and was sponsored by the CHCT and other partners. This brought together contributors, change makers, and guests to share what they had learned from the conversations initiated throughout the month.

CHCT Chair, Dr Oliver Dale, attended the event and comments:

“I think what was so good about the event was how many young people and people with a lived experience spoke and shared their experiences. Many used art and poetry and it impressed upon us the power of story telling, the importance of community and, whilst there is a need for a clinical approach, how fundamentally psychosocial and relational approaches are the most important aspects of helping people lead fulfilling lives.”

“I am very grateful to the CHCT’s benefactors who helped us bring people with a lived experience so that they could inform key  leaders from NHS England and the 3rd Sector to hear and understand how the system is experienced by patients. To quote Tom Main – your patients are your greatest asset.”
