As part of The Cassel Hospital’s centenary celebrations, former patient Hannah MacDonald is working with people connected to The Cassel to make a centenary quilt. The quilt will be made from 100 individually designed fabric diamonds and sewn together with the help of The Royal School of Needlework, which is based at nearby Hampton Court Palace. You don’t need to be a crafting whizz to take part. Hannah has drawn up a simple template and explains:

‘You can make your diamond as simple or as intricate as you like.’ Designs can be embroidered, knitted, crocheted, drawn painted or even take the form of a photograph. The ideas is for present and former staff, patients and carers to share a memory or an emotion relating to The Cassel.

Hannah, who studied at the Royal School of Needlework and works as a nurse, says: ‘Quilts can be incredibly diverse and, traditionally, tell stories and bring communities together so this seemed a perfect way to commemorate The Cassel’s centenary.’ For more information on how to take part in the Cassel’s Centenary Quilt Project, please go to our centenary page.
